A magical story of snow and stars by Catherine Fisher. The Clockwork Crow is a mysterious gothic Christmas tale set in a frost-bound Victorian country mansion. When orphaned Seren Rees is given a mysterious package by a strange and frightened man on her way to her new home, she reluctantly takes it with her. But what is in the parcel? This take takes place during Victorian times. Seren Rhys is an orphan child, who has been asked to live with her parents in their Welsh home. She travels alone by train with only a mysterious package which was handed to her by a tall, skinny man. On board the train she opens the package uncovering the broken parts of mechanical toy. When she arrives at the Big House there are no godparents or their son Tomos anywhere to be seen. Only the stern housekeeper Mrs Villiers and three other staff. The house is full of secrets which Seren is desperate to uncover. In boredom, she builds the mechanical toy and discovers its identity, which lead her into a magical Welsh fairy tale. My favourite character is the mechanical toy, who really shows his character once built. I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes a touch of magic and a mix of adventure

I did not enjoy this book because I found it creepy and the start happened all in a blur and quite quickly. I did not finish this book because I couldnt get into it.

This short chapter book has an interesting plot with a clockwork crow who was a school teacher before magic changed him! The story was slightly hard to get into and didn't grab me as much as I expected.

This was a great fiction book because it was magical fantasy but very realistic and fun. The story is about an orphan girl named Seren who is invited to a manor house. But there is a legend of a spooky family simply called either the family or them. When mayhem stirs can Seren stop it or will it overcome her.

It was really interesting and an exciting book to read. I loved it when Seren had to go to a different dimension with a clockwork crow to rescue a boy. My favorite character was the clockwork crow a former teacher. I recommend it to the kids who love reading about adventures and mysteries.

I thought this was a good book and there were features I really enjoyed. I liked the crow the most as I loved how sarcastic he was as it made me laugh. I also liked him because he reminded me of a grumpy old man especially when he was really ungrateful. The book was all a bit of a mystery as you don't find out what has happened at the massive mansion until you are a few chapters from the end. I would certainly recommend this book to someone else as it was a real cliff hanger and action story that I really loved. I would recommend it to anyone between the ages of 6 - an adult. Overall, a fantastic book!

The tale of a girl who is given a parcel from a stranger. Heading from her orphanage, Plas-y-Fran isn't quite what Seren is expecting. It seems too quiet. Seren, armed with a toy bird and courage, sets off on her own adventure to discover what happened. This book deserves a definite five. A page-turner.

I loved this book and enjoyed the thrilling adventure. I thought the fair family were extremely beastly and unfair. I would recommend this to anyone who likes adventure books.

It started off slowly but was intriguing with the parcel given to the girl at the station with the warning not to open it, and then it quickly warmed up and became exciting and I couldn’t put it down!
