An Eagle in the Snow
Michael Morpurgo
The powerful new novel from the master storyteller - inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II. 1940. The train is under attacks from German fighters. In the darkness, sheltering in a railway tunnel, the stranger in the carriage with Barney and his mother tells them a story to pass the time. And what a story. The story of a young man, a young soldier in the trenches of World War I who, on the spur of the moment, had done what he thought was the right thing. It turned out to have been the worst mistake he ever could have made – a mistake he must put right before it is too late…

This was a Michael Morpurgo wow factor to me. I enjoyed how he takes historical facts and turns them into historical stories. The story was about a stranger told a boy and his mother a story. The story that the stranger told was about his old friend Billy he called him. He was in the war and saw a little girl sitting new the tracks all alone. So Billy held her and took her to the Field Hospital. After that he kept drawing her in his sketch book he was very good at drawing. He won many medals for bravery and also won the Victoria Cross. Later, he went on holiday to Belgium to find the little girl who he found out was called Christine and he had found her and they married with both of them having no family they were very lonely. I would recommend this book to children aged 8 and over.

It is set in the 2nd world war and I didn't want to stop or finish it. I finished it in 2 days. It has rather big words and is constantly a cliff hanger!

I really enjoyed this book! My mummy read it before me, and she said it was really interesting. It was about a boy called Barney and he is on the steam train with his ma and a stranger. The stranger tells them a story about a man who thought he had done the right thing, but it turned out to be the wrong thing. I promise you it is not tragic. Though, the ending is odd.
